Strategic Aims for 2020​

ENSURING A ROBUST STATEWIDE HEALTH WORKFORCE

Notable Achievements to date:

Helped to coordinate the “Hawaiʻi’s Health Workforce Development for the 21st Century” legislative informational briefing, led by Senator Rosalyn Baker and Representative John Mizuno, on August 21, 2019.

Served on the core working group for the Oʻahu Healthcare Sector Partnership’s Health Workforce Initiative (led by Healthcare Association of Hawaiʻi).

Catalyzed planning for a new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at UH.

Advanced funding request for new JABSOM medical student cohort on Maui, which was approved by the UH Board of Regents and included in the governor’s budget.

Strategic Aims for 2020

1.           Collaborate to align UH health sciences program offerings with industry needs.

DISCOVERING AND INNOVATING TO IMPROVE AND EXTEND LIVES

Notable Achievements to date:

Identified numerous potential federal funding opportunities for UH researchers.

Championed innovative models of care delivery, including through better use of telehealth and clinical pharmacist teams embedded in physician practices.

Strategic Aims for 2020

1.           Support integration of clinical pharmacists into primary care.

2.           Expand telehealth through pilot maternal telehealth project, provider outreach, and curriculum development.

PROMOTING HEALTHIER FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES

Notable Achievements to date:

Submitted grant applications to advance the Community Aging in Place–Advancing Better Living for Elders (CAPABLE) model, which engages interprofessional teams of nurses, occupational therapists, and handyworkers to help low-income seniors age in place & avoid falls.

Established and leads the UH System Global Health and Social Justice Work Group, which focuses on Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander health.

1.           Advance implementation of CAPABLE aging in place model for low-income kūpuna.

ADVANCING HEALTH IN ALL POLICIES

Notable Achievements to date:

Collaborated to draft early proposals to establish a UH Health Policy Institute and create a “U.S. Health Policy for Health Professionals Bootcamp” program.
